A series of live performances by UrbanArts professional emerging artists, and youth celebrating the diversity of Toronto and commemorating bravery in the pursuit of social justice. Communities on the Move is a partnership between UrbanArts, the Toronto Community Housing Corporation and various agencies in central west Toronto that sees UrbanArts accalaimed artistic programming for youth conducted at various TCHC locations. It is letting all persons that live in Toronto enjoy and thrive int he arts in their very own neighborhoods and buildings. UrbanArts hires youth artists in the summer and helps beautify the urban communities around central west Toronto through the design and painting of large scale mural projects. Last year we managed to complete an amazing mural at our community arts space, Y-Arts Community Arts Space, and we painted 15 garbage cans at the Eglinton Flats Park. Hiring takes place in the spring so please keep an eye on the website or email us to put you on the UrbanArts email list. In the Summer of 2005, UrbanArts began the pursuit of engaged communities through the beautification and transition of neglected space in high density neighborhoods. Residences of Toronto’s priority neighborhoods were asked “how could you make your community better through art ?”. The wellspring of ideas will manifest itself in many community arts project and will help to transfer Toronto’s priority neighborhoods into cultural destinations. Among other community support and advocacy efforts the UrbanScrawl has been UrbanArts means of communicating its own efforts and the efforts of youth and artists in the community. It is distributed by mail and at partner locations.
