Art changes lives

Community Arts Centre wall mural in progress
"The Y-arts [Community Arts Centre wall] was so big that we had a hard time swallowing it. Our group sometimes sat by the wall, and asked amongst ourselves, "Do you think we'll be able to finish it?" and "What if we don't finish it on time?" In those gloomy moments it was the light of Anthony the Hopeful Boy and Alex the Confident Guy that lead us out the bleakness. Diana on the other hand pulled us to success through solid quality work. A special thanks to James who kept me awake by endless arguments! All in all, this summer job was fantastic because I became rich."

2005-2006 Annual Report

COLANTHONY HUMPHREY"The mural was a complete success. We've started work on the second mural and it is looking great! I like my fellow employees because I can talk to them as more than just co-workers - as friends. I also like the business area we work at, at Y-Arts community arts centre. It's fun to meet people every day. They're very kind and honest. I love it here!"

"Volunteering at Y-Arts community arts centre has made a big difference to me. I enjoy working with the kids because they remind me how it was to be their age. I also became a little more comfortable expressing myself in front of others. I am a busy student with school, work, boxing and working out, but I will always have time for volunteering at Y-Arts."
